My family of five went skiing somewhere around 44 days at Granite Gorge last year. We always brought a bag lunch to eat in the yurt (there isn’t a big, fancy lodge – you need to pay extra for that) and we owned our own equipment (but more on that in a minute). By the time we were done, we paid $3.11 for each person for each day we went. Since the lift lines were never long and each kid got to take at least a dozen runs or more each day, I figured each ride on the lift cost us about twenty five cents. (Even with Granite Gorge’s change in the rate, this year would cost about $5 a day, which is still a lot cheaper than a movie, and watching a movie doesn’t make my kids collapse into bed at night.)

"Just a quick note about my family’s experience at Granite Gorge today. The kids were off school, so we drove up for a time of tubing. We arrived about 10:30 and started tubing. There was only one employee (Nick) at the top of the hill. He was there by himself until noon. I asked him about it being alone and he stated that 2 others called in for today. Nick (and I don’t know his last name) was incredible. He worked tirelessly pushing, pulling and spinning kids and adults down the hill. He was extremely friendly and engaging with our family and the other guests. I complimented him on his work before we left. “I love doing this and my job is to help your family have a great time.”"

My 2 daughters, age 6 and 3, can now both go up the chair lift and make it down the slope without a single spill. My 3 year old was disappointed that she can't go on the tubes, but I can understand the legal aspects of it... As a recent single Dad of two young children one Boy of 12(snowboarder) and a girl of 10 (skier and tuber) I find it difficult to find entertainment that is first affordable and enjoyable for both children. This weekend I brought a guest a friend of my sons. His ability Snowboarding was not very good. It was his first time on a mountain. The staff for instruction was punched out and enjoying their free time. One gentleman(on your staff) offered to give him some pointers. He spent a great deal of his own time to assure that his snowboarding experience was a pleasurable one. As I sit in the lodge and watch the various people come and go I can't help but notice all your staff performing all their duties with both professionalism and enjoyment. There was a need for EMS this weekend and the calm and direct attention your staff gave this matter provides a peace of mind for me as my family and friends enjoy a sport with the associated risks involved.
The activity on the mountain has been long overdue. Your commitment to reviving this ski area is an honorable one. It adds quality family recreation to the region."
